Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you wanted to know about digital balance, screen time, Digital Restart, and the Simply Be movement.

What is digital balance and why does it matter?
Digital balance is the ability to integrate technology into your life in a conscious, healthy way — without feeling like screens are running you. In an era where average smartphone use exceeds 4 hours a day, digital balance matters for mental health, social connections, and sleep quality. It's not about quitting — it's about building a healthier relationship with technology.
Why are people so hooked on their phones?
Smartphones are designed to drive continuous use: notifications, infinite scroll, and likes trigger dopamine in the brain — exactly like addiction mechanisms. The attention economy is built on selling your attention to advertisers. Platforms compete for every extra second of your time. Understanding this mechanism is the first step to changing it.
What are the recommended screen time limits for children?
According to the WHO: children under 2 — no screens (except video calls); ages 2–5 — up to 1 hour per day; ages 6+ — adjusted limits based on content quality. For teens, what they watch matters as much as how long — content that triggers social comparison and damages self-image is more harmful than raw screen time alone.
What is the Digital Restart program?
Digital Restart is an 8-week group program led by Rotem Avny. The goal: rebuild your relationship with technology through 12 "mental muscles" — skills that help you live with screens rather than be lived by them. The program includes community sessions, practical tools, and ongoing group support throughout.
What is the Simply Be movement?
Simply Be is a movement founded by Rotem Avny — a community of people who choose presence, freedom from distraction, and genuine connection with the people around them. The movement offers events, online and offline community, and content that strengthens identity beyond the feed. Core principle: be here, now.
What kinds of workshops can I book?
Rotem offers a range of formats: lectures for organizations and companies, workshops for schools and youth groups, team study days, and conference keynotes. Topics include: digital balance at work, AI and wellbeing, screen relationships for teenagers, and more. Every format is tailored to the audience, timing, and objective.
What's the difference between a webinar and a workshop?
A webinar is a short online session (60–90 minutes), usually free, open to a broad audience. It focuses on delivering practical knowledge and tools you can use immediately. A workshop is a deeper experience — in person, with practice, discussion, and real interaction. Both are effective depending on your needs and goals.
What is Rotem Avny's professional background?
Rotem Avny is a digital balance and technology relationship expert with over a decade in UX design, education management, and youth entrepreneurship. Founder of the Simply Be movement and creator of the Digital Restart program. He also hosts the Relationscreens podcast and speaks at organizations and conferences across Israel.
Is 1-on-1 coaching available?

How does the attention economy affect us?
The attention economy is the business model behind most digital platforms — your attention is the product sold to advertisers. Platforms are engineered to maximize time on screen: algorithms, polarizing content, and constant stimulation. Understanding the mechanism strengthens your ability to choose differently and reclaim your time and focus.
What's the difference between mindful use and a digital detox?
A digital detox is temporary avoidance of technology — less effective long-term. Mindful use means building new tools and patterns that let you live with technology by choice. Rotem's approach: don't flee from technology — transform your relationship with it.
